We, the management staff of Huck’s Filling Station, want to thank you for patronizing our business.  We feel that it is our responsibility to be transparent with you and explain how we came to this decision and have decided to change our business model to adapt to new realities that have taken hold in our industry.  We value your business and for choosing to enjoy a moment away with us from the day to day to create new memories.

At Huck’s, we believe that our team has consistently risen to the challenges of the times that face the hospitality industry and adapted to continue to deliver the high quality food and creativity that you have come to expect from us.  There is no denying that there has been a growing wage disparity between tipped employees and non-tipped employees.  Our Kitchen team is the heart and soul of our operation and the foundation for our success.  We would like for the kitchen to be rewarded for their contributions.

There are similar policies that have been enacted in other restaurants in Rhode Island, as well as, other states nation-wide.  We have contacted these businesses and spoken with them directly to gauge response from patrons and employees alike.  Overall, the response from the initiative has been well received.  However, if you feel that this fee is unwarranted and would like to not participate, we will gladly remove the charge from your bill.  We at Huck’s feel that by adding that nominal charge of 1 % will allow our kitchen employees to see an increase that will improve their quality of life.  Our hope is that by doing this and forming partnerships with other restaurants to adopt similar policies, this will be a reward to those that have a passion for remaining in this industry and to slow a shrinking labor market.

We appreciate your continued support and understanding.  We feel that all of our guests, old and new, deserve to know our thought process behind this policy and we appreciate any feedback that you may have.  Please do not hesitate to ask questions or express any concerns.

Thank you.
